Whether it's road, rail-trail or mountain bike riding that you are after Beechworth has options available to suit all ages and abilities.

Regardless of the type of bike that you ride, you'll enjoy the sweeping views, freewheeling descents and winding climbs before returning to Beechworth for a coffee or freshly brewed Ale from Bridge Road Brewers.

Don't worry about flat tyres or mechanical problems with your bike, if anything goes wrong call us and we'll come and collect you within a 30km radius of the motel. We also provide secure bike storage and carry a range of spare tubes and parts.

Secure Bike Storage, Change Room and eBike Charging

Golden Heritage Accommodation Beechworth has the most epic bike storage facility in country Victoria. Secure with RFID fob access, security cameras, self closing door and individual locks.

Over half of the facility is dedicated to eBikes with power points setup high and in easy reach and an all important shelf to rest the charger on.

For guest arriving early or wishing to squeeze one more ride in before the journey home, we have a Change room with toilet and shower facilities.

Located next to the Change room is our guest laundry.

Beechworth Mountain Bike Rides

Parks Victoria's Beechworth Heritage Park and the hills surrounding the town are full with Mountain Bike Trails ranging from cross country to downhill, from Green beginner trails to the challenging double black.

But it's Indigo EPIC that's challenging riders from far and wide, with 56km of single track connecting the historic towns of Beechworth and Yackandandah.

The trail comprises two loops in a figure eight style built to an intermediate blue rating. It's fast, fun and challenging in sections, set in a breathtaking Australian Forest landscape.

This incredible mountain bike trail offers something for everyone, it's packed full of features and running through some of the most spectacular scenery in Victoria’s High Country.

Beechworth Mountain Bike Park

Kudos needs to go to the Beechworth Chain Gang for creating and maintaining the Beechworth Mountain Bike Park and many of the trails in the region, along with prisoners from the Beechworth Correctional Centre.

Beechworth Mountain Bike Park is on Alma Road, and is set on a moderate hill making it the perfect location for all rider skill levels. There is an excellent mix of short pinch climbs, tight switchbacks, and technically challenging sections all housed within single tracks that loop to and from a single trailhead. The park consists of a cross country single track, a short course downhill, a jumps area and a beginners cross country loop. The downhill crew are also catered for with a short, fast and technical track that is easily shuttled for endless runs.

What Beechworth lacks in big elevation and long DH runs it makes up for with technical difficulty and risk/reward. Dr Hong's Prune Candy and Short Course Downhill are tight, twisty and fast gravity runs where line choice is critical if you are to avoid a granite sandwich, while Don't Be A Hero is a shuttle-worthy jumps-fest that gets better every time you ride it.

Flame Tree Loop

Head down the Murray to Mountains Rail Trail towards Everton and at Diffey Road you'll find the start of the Flame Trees loop. A 10km single track loop running parallel to the rail trail which is suitable for entry level riders through to the accomplished.

Multiple short but technical descents into the shaded gullies, with a combination of rocks and multiple gradient changes are followed by snaking switch backs and climbs.

Watch for the bollards that direct you on and off the rail trail on the left as you descend.

Murray to Mountains

The Beechworth to Everton leg of rail trail is a 16km freewheeling journey passing beautiful bush land, over old bridges and through cuttings. It is ideal for most members of the family or group to enjoy, but please plan for the return journey.

We recommend driving down to Everton Station and leaving a car packed with provisions for a picnic and shuttle back to the start. This gives a great option for people who don't want to make the slow and steady return climb back to Beechworth.

The Flametrees Mountain Bike Track runs alongside the trail starting on the left just passed Diffey Road and continues 5km downhill. On the return journey please ride the dedicated uphill trail on the left beginning where the downhill trail ended.

Beechworth to Yackandandah

This undulating 31km section leaves from Beechworth and heads towards the Mountain Bike Park before following the forests edge and farmland to Wooragee. From here the path winds through the valley following the same course as the road. After the descending through the tunnel under Yackandandah road the trail hangs off a suspended bridge before a mostly down hill trip into Yackandandah.

Family Rides

Beechworth is a wonderful place for kids to explore by bike, ride their first rail trail or cross country course and preparation is the key to ensuring that they have a wonderful experience.

Some of the rides listed below we recommend car shuttling or diving a car to the end of the ride and cycling back to the start to join the family. Please talk to us at reception and we'll help to to determine whether the ride is suitable for your family and discuss the current trail conditions. We may also be able to help you with car shuffling options.

Ride Options

Beechworth to Everton

Lake Sambell Loop

Leaving the accommodation cross Sydney Rd via the pedestrian crossing, this 5km ride starts by heading towards town along the footpath. At the bend turn left into Junction Rd and continue straight into Peach Dr and you'll arrive at Lake Sambell.

Cross onto the walking trail and continue clockwise around the lake until you reach Lower Stanley Rd which is a residential street. Follow this road until you reach Stanley Rd and turn right onto the footpath.

While on Stanley Rd you should be able to spot the Beechworth Ice-creamery and Beechworth Sweats at the edge of town, which are favorite stops for any child.

Ride past the lake until you turn right onto the rail trail near McConville Av and follow the path to the playground before returning to Golden Heritage via Peach Dr and Junction Rd.

Beechworth Gorge

NOTE: Currently Closed at the Powder Magazine

This is a fantastic ride to challenge the family, but please note the this ride is on a one way road along Gorge Road.

On leaving the accommodation, turn left and ride past the Cottages on the stone path and turn left into Gorge Rd. Follow the road through the Gorge taking time to admire the views and giant granite boulders before the short downhill to the Powder Magazine which is well worth a visit.

Head along the one way road to the bridge and take a rest by the rockpools and waterfalls, before starting the gentle uphill climb that follows Spring Creek back to Newtown Bridge along the unsealed road. This section of the creek was an integral part of the original Beechworth gold rush in 1852.

At Newtown Bridge, carefully cross Beechworth-Wangaratta Rd into Mellish St and just passed the first house on the left go through the gate onto the trail that heads back to town. Or continue along and return to town via the Murray to Mountains Rail Trail.
